CULTURE APPROPRIATION

                        CULTURE APPROPRIATION

Many people around the world celebrate Halloween  Costume parties are held and many children go trick-or-treating around this time of the year.

On October 17, 2017, Teen Vogue posted a video titled, "My culture is NOT A costume." The video clip shows a group of young women of colour talking about their cultures being used as their costumes. They share their experiences and opinions about these costumes.

In my opinion, it was never a problem to dress up into these costumes. We are supposed to be embracing, supporting and sharing other people's cultures. We are not assigned and restricted due to the way we were born. Many of us admire famous people who have different ethnicities and want to dress up as them for Halloween. The problem with this is that people will think you are disrespecting their culture and is considered racist. Although we should also realize and understand that culture has a huge meaning in everyone's lives and how much it would affect them if other people wore cultural costumes. I think we should also put ourselves in their positions, it is not funny to dress a certain way. A solution to this is that people should spread awareness to convince and let people know how they feel about cultural costumes and why they shouldn't wear them.
