Young people shouldn't vote!

"YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULDN'T VOTE!"
There has been an on-going debate about whether younger people should or not. The video clip showcases a group of elderly citizens talking about young people. They are giving reasons why young people should not vote and their opinions about them.
As I was watching the video, my eyes widened and were shook because of the message the older generation is trying to give. Personally, I am offended. The video is very discouraging and judgemental towards the younger generation. Older people should not assume that all children are immature. I strongly disagree that all young people don't care about politics and are unaware of our society.
Firstly, at the age of 16, we are educated and are learning about politics. Letting young people vote would boost Canadian’s lifelong participation in the democratic process while also strengthening it. Secondly, we would give the generation the chance to have a real say in the society they already participate in. By not allowing these young people to vote, we are shutting out the democratic perspective of a segment of our population. There is no reason not to give them the right to vote because they are given other rights, such as driving and having a job. Thirdly, many argue that young people do not have developed brains until the age of 25. But I say that there are 60-year-olds out there who don’t have extensive knowledge of politics and yet they are able to vote. Lastly, Everyone talks about how teenagers don’t care about politics, but I don’t think it is quite relevant. Really the only reason that today’s teens aren’t interested in the nation’s government (assuming that they are, in fact uninterested) is because they have no reason to be: We don’t let them vote, so they don’t bother to think about who they would vote for.
In conclusion, young people should be allowed to vote. For those who take it seriously will learn to become more independent and understand politics. It is very unfair to think that all young people are lacking knowledge or considered childish. We should not be underestimating young people because they are the next generation. We, young people, are the future of our community and the future of our country.
